blick magazine image manipulation
This magazine concept is created to give a new perspective and access to the rich history of Eisenhüttenstadt. A city that has internalized and included the history of the GDR in every fiber and corner of the city. Everyone has a different prior knowledge or connection to the city and its rich history. A communication should be created, which in the first step no prior knowledge is expected, that does not offend different groups of people and which in the second step invites to deal with Eisenhüttenstadt in a new context and to embrace different perspectives and thoughts.

Contemporary image manipulation is used to create an abstract access to Eisenhüttenstadt and its details, to sharpen the view and to provoke the observer. The provoking itself is the first step to engage with a subject. This highly visual and abstract approach to the subject is intended to remove the observer's reservations, spark curiosity and open the interpretive space — for each observer with his or her own thoughts. In the second step, an encounter with the subject can take place on a lyrical level. The technique and style of the image manipulation, as well as the content of the image form an unity and always refer to each other. Through the manipulation, a new visual level and relevance of the details emerge.

The magazine design was created as a collaborative effort. The image manipulation I composed focuses on the detail of specific house facades in Eisenhüttenstadt. The tiles are made of the expensive Meissen ceramics. To emphasize this easily overlooked feature, an effect was created in TouchDesigner that divides different images of the facade and the Meissen logo into individual sections or tiles and shifts them towards each other in an animation. This process was repeated several times and the resulting images were assembled, shifted towards each other and further processed in other programs. For this purpose, different degrees of displacement were used.  Finally, the finished image was inserted back into the program to create an overlay animation for the magazine.
